The Challenge

Houston TranStar, the Greater Houston transportation and emergency management center, is dedicated to safety and public education. Over a 10-year period, about 75 percent of stranded motorists who died in Harris County were standing outside their vehicles. A new safety campaign, “It’s Only a White Line,” was created for preventing fatalities among stranded motorists and pedestrians. Our challenge: How might we address the lack of awareness among the general public regarding the urgency of stranded motorist fatalities, and provide sufficient access to free resources necessary for making informed and safe decisions during such emergencies?

Our Approach

The name, logo, and basic style guide was provided early on in this campaign however to increase awareness  and visibility we began by developing a solid brand identity. After research and planning, we presented a storyboard that would resonate with the residents of the Greater Houston area, and compliment Houston TranStar’s parent brand. Once the design elements were finalized we began working on a wireframe to illustrate the information architecture., our team mapped out the site and created a wireframe to illustrate the information architecture. Our creative director used the design elements from the style guide (typography, textures, imagery) to design a website that would host the data and information for the general public. Our objective was to ensure an optimal UX design that not only educated viewers, but also illustrated the critical importance of awareness. We designed and developed the website in
